The Kimura Lock – A Drill From Closed Guard

April 7, 2014 By Marcos Torregrosa

kimura shoulder lock

This technique is called the “kimura.” It is an arm lock that attacks the shoulder. This is one of the most fundamental techniques in Jiu-Jitsu as well as one of the most effective and, if not released, destructive submissions there is in all martial arts. The kimura can cause injury to three areas – the elbow joint, the shoulder joint, and the upper arm bone (humerus). The hold goes as far back as early iterations of Japanese Judo.MMA champions such as: GSP, Mintauro Nogueira, and Jon Jones have used this technique to win fights.Come in and check us out to learn techniques like the kimura and have fun getting fit at our bjj academy.
