Datsusara Sponsors Yemaso BJJ Competition Team

August 1, 2012 By Marcos Torregrosa 1 Comment

Datsusara DS Gear – Sponsor Highlight

There’s no way around it, if you train MMA or BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) long enough, you will inevitably end up with some very smelly equipment.  Most Gis are made from 100% cotton.  The problem is that eventually no amount of liquid detergent and fabric softner combination is going to be a match for all of the microscopic bacteria that develops and creates odor.  If you have smelly gear, your gear bag will also eventually bite the dust and smell bad as well.

Our competition team’s sponsor Datsusara DS Gear has a solution to both of those problems.  Datsusara’s solution is their line of gear bags, Gis, and fight shorts are made of 100% hemp.  You may be find yourself asking, “why hemp?”

Hemp is:

  •  4 Times stronger than cotton (it will last A LOT longer)
  • Antimicrobial (bacteria, fungus, and mold can’t live in it – Bye bye staff and bad odors)
  • Porous (keeps your gear aired out)
  • Environmentally friendly (a renewable source that uses very little water, doesn’t require use of pesticides/fertilizers)

Check out Datsusara YouTube Channel:  Here  – They put up a lot of videos demonstrating the gear they sell as well as some other good bits of information.

Do a google search for “Datsusara Review” and you’ll find more information than you need to make an informed decision regarding their products.

Acquiring a sponsorship with Datsusara is a step in the right direction for Team Yemaso.  We want to align ourselves with companies who do business in a certain way: ethical.  In addition, we don’t want to align ourselves with companies who are just willing to sponsor anyone out there for the sake of marketing.  We are glad to put our competition record in a mutual support relationship with Datsusara DS Gear.  Thank you, DS Gear for your continued support.

Now, unto the interview…

Can you tell us about the history of Datsusara DS Gear?

Datsusara was founded in 2007, because I couldn’t find a decent bag for MMA gear.  I wanted to make something that was truly functional in design, but also used the right materials for the job of making sure your bag and gear didn’t get nasty.  Our hemp Pro Gear Bag was born and we now carry a full line of bags, fight gear and apparel all made with hemp textiles.

Who is Datsusara  DS Gear’s target customer?

Our gear is still tailored for MMA and it’s related sports but we now have products that appeal to anyone leading an active life.

What is unique about Datusuara DS Gear?

Our truly functional, low profile designs, and our use of hemp textiles.

Who are your favorite brazilian jiu jitsu fighters?

I prefer to watch BJJ in the context of MMA matches with people like Demian Maia, BJ Penn, & Jung Chan-Sung (The Korean Zombie).  I also have a bunch of favorites at our local competitions here in the SF Bay Area, mostly guys I know from 10th Planet as I prefer NoGi events.

Who are your favorite mma fighters?

My current favorite is Georges St-Pierre because not only is he very talented but more importantly he’s an honorable guy that I think represents the sport well.  I don’t care for Sonnen or Diaz types, but they do at least give me someone to root against hehehe.  There are also many others that I just love to watch because they kick so much ass and don’t talk too much trash, like Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, and Jung Chan-Sung (The Korean Zombie).

What is the ultimate goal of Datsusara DS Gear?

I want to provide the highest quality sports gear while also helping to bring hemp back to the world in a new light so that someone besides hippies can enjoy the benefits of this amazing fiber.

What should we look out for from Datsusara DS Gear in the future?

There will certainly be more bag sizes coming soon probably smaller version of the backpack and gear bag.  We also have a list of about 20 products we hope to make ranging from hand wraps to rash guards but I’m always making sure we improve the current lineup first.

How can we and our fans get in touch with you?

The best way is via email chris@dsgear.com , but I also keep a close eye on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/datsusara and Twitter feed @dsgear.  We do have a phone number too but I’m slower on calls as I prefer the digital world for business because it allows more freedom.

I love my Pro Gear Bag. I pack my entire week’s worth of equipment all at once. It’s also my preferred travel bag now too.
