Discounted Memberships for Service Men & Women

June 25, 2015 By Admin Leave a Comment

We would like to officially announce an update and revision to our membership pricing structure.  At this point, we are not raising any prices for our membership options; we are quite happy about being able to keep our prices stable while adding more square footage to our facilities, a dedicated changing room, better mats, and moving to a new location.

Today we are ecstatic to announce a permanent update to our pricing structure as it relates to police officers and service men/women. Starting today, we will be giving a $20 discount to all police officers, firemen, and members of the armed forces under the unlimited membership option.

To sum it up, if you are an officer of the law, you may come in and sign up for unlimited classes at a $20 discount off of the full price of $140.

We are very excited and proud to be in a position to offer this service to our community.  Police officers put their lives at risk every day for the benefit of us all.  We wholeheartedly believe that developing an expertise in grappling is one of the best ways to keep officers and citizens safe in situations where someone must be apprehended.

Our curriculum of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu incorporates Judo and Wrestling to create a comprehensive solution for getting someone to the ground with the least amount of effort and keeping them there in the most energy-efficient manner possible. We have had great feedback from current members who happen to be officers of the law. The overwhelming feedback is that their main reason for training with us is to increase their toolset for dealing with people when a situation escalates into a physical confrontation, and, thanks to the training they receive at Yemaso BJJ, they feel much more secure that they will be going home to their loved ones each day at the end of their shift.

If you are a police officer or know someone who is, please share this link with them. We want to keep our officers safe and make a statement that we support our service men and women.

Yemaso BJJ Hosts Gianni Grippo

June 9, 2015 By Admin

yemaso bjj gianni grippo seminar
Great day learning precise details from an elite american black belt!

This past Saturday, June 6th, Yemaso Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy had the distinct pleasure of hosting multiple time world champion Gianni Grippo.  Gianni has traveled the world and, much like instructor Marcos “Yemaso” Torregrosa, has learned from the best on his way to becoming one of the best.

Gianni Grippo’s accomplishments:

4 Time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation World Champion

  • 2008 Juvenile Blue Belt Featherweight
  • 2009 Blue Belt Light-Featherweight
  • 2011 Purple Belt Featherweight
  • 2013 Brown Belt Featherweight

2 Time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation World Champion No-Gi World Champion

  • 2007 Juvenile Blue Belt Featherweight
  • 2010 Purple Belt Featherweight

4 Time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Pan American Champion

  • 2009 Blue Belt Light-Featherweight
  • 2011 Purple Belt Featherweight
  • 2012 Brown Belt Featherweight
  • 2014 Black Belt Featherweight (Closed out w/Mario Reis)

5 Time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation No-Gi Pan American Championship

  • 2008 Blue Belt Light-Featherweight
  • 2009 Purple Belt Light-Featherweight
  • 2010 Purple Belt Featherweight
  • 2012 Brown Belt Featherweight
  • 2013 Brown Belt Featherweight

Hungry for knowledge…
“One small detail can make a huge difference in your overall game.”
Gianni shows how precise the details are when it comes to execution.
Gianni discussing the finer points of passing someone’s guard.
Practice makes perfect.
Drill to win.
Warming up & working the core!
The present and the future.
Two world champions rolling, adapting, & learning.

Gianni’s Training Philosophy

Gianni shared a lot about his training mentality and how he goes about developing his game.  Gianni is a big believer in drilling techniques repetitively until they become second nature.  This is a concept that we have cultivated at Yemaso BJJ, and hearing one of the best in the game share the same sentiment validates our efforts and proves that we are aligned with the best principles to develop great martial artists.

The seminar went a good four hours as Gianni personally made sure everyone understood and applied the concepts he taught.  In addition, Gianni made himself available to roll with the students of Yemaso BJJ.  We ended the seminar with a question and answer session where Gianni allowed the students of Yemaso BJJ to ask him anything.

Gianni fielded questions regarding diet, organization of his time (he is also a full time student), specifics about techniques, and how he cares for his body.  Gianni also made it a point to talk about being a black belt on and off the mats.  Being a black belt on the mats is all about the skill and application of the martial art.  But, being a black belt off the mats is about being a kind, responsible, role model for others as it relates to everything outside of the martial arts.

Gianni was a great guest and we look forward to having him back again in the future. Yemaso BJJ is committed to the continued development of our students; we will always do our best to bring forth the most modern, efficient, innovation in martial arts.

Marcos Brings Back Gold from Brazil

Marcos "Yemaso" Torregrosa in the finals of the lightweight title!
Marcos “Yemaso” Torregrosa in the finals of the lightweight title!

Sacramento based Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor, Marcos “Yemaso” Torregrosa traveled to Brazil in order to face the formidable challenge of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s tournament dubbed “Brazilian Nationals.” This tournament, considered by martial art authorities, is arguable the most difficult tournament to win; Brazilian Nationals hosts many top athletes who never have the support to make it over to compete in other major tournaments which have moved to the United States such as the World Championships and Pan American championships.

This past Saturday, May 2nd, Marcos become the black belt lightweight champion after defeating five opponents on his way to the gold medal. This is a huge feat as Marcos is the only black belt in Sacramento who was able to complete this task. Marcos submitted two of his five opponents, congratulations Marcos!
