How to Supplement BJJ

[tentblogger-youtube TePGrEhm1gI]

One frequently asked question during my seminars and from my own academy’s students is, “Marcos, what do you do outside of BJJ training to help you perform better at BJJ?”

For some of you, this is going to be something you have already heard about.  Others, I hope, will find some use and benefit from my advice.  At any rate, I have decided to create my first series of posts, to help you become a better grappler, on the subject of supplementing your brazilian jiu jitsu training.

Here are some of the topics I will be covering:

  1. Swimming to supplement your bjj
    *     Why you should be swimming to supplement your bjj
    *     How to swim to supplement your bjj
    *     When to swim to supplement bjj and not over-train
  2. Lifting weights to supplement your bjj
    *     Why you should be lifting to supplement your bjj
    *     Which lifts and how to lift to supplement your bjj
    *     How often to lift to supplement your bjj
  3. Running to supplement your bjj
    *     How most people that run are hurting their bjj
    *     The correct way to run for bjj
    *     Specific running drills for bjj

Then, I will be opening the floor for some questions from YOU that I will be answering promptly.

However, let me be the first to remind you, as a bjj black belt read this carefully: there is nothing else better than bjj training to help you get better at bjj.  Ultimately, no other cardio workout can mimic bjj like the real thing.  But, there are times when some of us can’t show up to the bjj academy.  Maybe you are looking for something to do during your vacations to make sure your bjj training does not suffer.

My hope is to be able to explain what I do, and how you can do it as well to supplement your bjj training.

STAY TUNED!
